Approximately 15% (1 in 7) of all women will experience postpartum depression following the birth of a child. But it isn't just depression, perinatal disorders can be in the form of anxiety and postpartum psychosis as well. When the mental health of the mother is compromised, it affects the entire family.
It's really a very scary place to be, and I really don't think people get it, but I don't think I got it before it happened to ME. If I can just help one mom feel a little bit better or just get help, then that makes me so happy. I'm very open about my story, I have nothing to hide, nothing to be ashamed of. Postpartum should not be looked at as a taboo subject, it's real life. And it's HARD. I can talk about how bad it was now, because I was able to get the help I needed. Consider donating, so other new moms can get the help they need too!
Postpartum Support International's Climb Out of the Darkness is the world's largest event for raising awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, while raising money and building community.
You are not alone. You are not to blame. With help, you will be well.
